The situation for women and girls in Afghanistan deteriorated massively when the Taliban came to power with the approval of the American government in August 2021. Despite initial promises from Americans and Europeans to prevent human rights violations, the Taliban have implemented numerous bans that prevent women and girls from exercising their basic rights to expression, freedom, work and education.

Western countries first occupied Afghanistan for years and then left Afghan women inhumanely alone and watched every day as they were threatened, arrested and tortured.

Women's rights activists report kidnappings, child marriages, forced marriages and rape after the American government's decision to allow the Taliban to gain state power.

Paragraph 3 of the preamble to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights summarizes the right of resistance as a sanction for the disregard of human rights through arbitrary rule.

A universal right of resistance, known as Widerstandsrecht or Revolutionsrecht for women, can also be derived from this principle. Specifically, this right can be invoked when women in any state are threatened and oppressed due to the existence of tyranny in our society.
